Vaccinations PDF Print E-mail

Dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets should be vaccinated annually to prevent contagious viral infections and diseases.  Many boarding kennels also require pets to be vaccinated before they can be accepted into boarding.

Vaccinations for Puppies & Dogs

As a puppy your dog will need to have a course of three vaccinations at specific ages to ensure that they are fully protected against diseases such as parvovirus, distemper and kennel cough. The we reccomend that new puppies in this area recieve the C7 vaccine which covers parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, coronavirus, leptospirosis, parainfluenza and bordatella (kennel cough). Puppies recieve an inital course of 3 vaccines at 4 weekly intervals; 6 to 8 weeks, 12 to 14 weeks and 16 to 18 weeks.

The standard vaccine for adult dogs is the C3 which covers parvovirus, distemper and hepatitis. Older dogs (over 7 years) can receive a three yearly vaccination.

Dogs which go into boarding or do training during the year require a C5 vaccine. The C5 includes parvovirus, hepatitis, distemper, and kennel cough.

Vaccinations for Kittens and Cats

The cat vaccine protocol includes routine annual F.3 Vaccine (Feline Rhinotracheitis, Feline Calicivirus & Panleukopenia). Kittens receive an initial course of 3 vaccines at 4 weekly intervals, generally at 8 weeks, 12 weeks & 16 weeks.

The feline FIV vaccine is available and highly recommended for cats in this area, an initial course of 3 vaccine at 2 weekly intervals then a annual booster.
